Many customers decide to install a key system throughout their facilities to simplify the management of keys and cores. What some people don’t know is that there are many different options when it comes to installing a key system.
Just What Is A Master Key System?
A master key system allows you to operate multiple locks with one key, thereby reducing the need for a keyring the size of a hula hoop. This allows you to have various levels of access to each lock.
For example, if you do not want all your employees to access all the same doors, a multiple level master key system may be the answer.
Just How Does A Master Key System Work?
Master key systems can be hard to explain and understand sometimes. But let's start at the beginning.
Let’s use a general store as an example. This store has four locks that need to be integrated into the master system: The front door, the back door, the office door, and stock cases. You want your managers to have access to all of the doors, your shift supervisors to have access to all but the office, and your employees to have access to the stock cases.
This setup would call for a three-level master key system. Your manager would carry the Grandmaster key, your shift supervisors would carry one sub-master key and your employees would carry a change key. Voilà– that's all there is to it.
If you only had 2 levels of people to have access to different doors, you guessed it that would be a 2 level system. A lot of systems for most small businesses are a 2 level system. This type of system takes care of a lot of single-owner property managers who may own a few apartment complexes or a few rental houses. This ensures each tenant has their own key for their apartment and our single owner has a master key that gets into all his properties or apartments.
